Opinionated final paper- Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Obstinate last paper- - Essay Example ten read the sonnet as an agent of the carpe diem topic, the speaker appears to step past the seize-the-day topic of ââ¬Å"Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye Mayâ⬠into darker domain. The speaker of ââ¬Å"To His Coy Mistressâ⬠saturates the sonnet with sexual symbolism, tone, and wording that is of a genuine sort and that would put any female peruser prepared for his advances. The very title and opening of the sonnet are forceful in their tone. The speaker alludes to the ââ¬Å"coynessâ⬠of the Mistress (Marvell 1). Most ladies are normally bashful and held as far as sexual connections and quest for such connections. Society puts a shame on those ladies who are excessively forward or who seek after sex excessively. Since society does this, numerous ladies become insulted if their admirers don't see them as held with respect to sex. The speaker of the sonnet tells the Mistress that the ââ¬Å"coyness . . . were no crimeâ⬠just ââ¬Å"Had we yet world enough and timeâ⬠(2 and 1). This methodology is what might be compared to the cutting edge get artistââ¬â¢s strategy of commending a lady yet joining an affront into the commendation. The speaker praises his fancy woman for her bashfulness yet then put-down her for putting off his advances for a really long time. Most ladies would perceive the affront covered up inside the commendation and di sapprove of the strategies of the speaker. The speaker keeps offending the Mistressââ¬â¢ modesty and shyness and forcefully assaults another of most womenââ¬â¢s instabilities, their excellence. Subsequent to illuminating his special lady that he would sit tight several years for her to surrender to his advances, he disavows that announcement by offending his mistressââ¬â¢ excellence. He develops himself by enumerating how he would hang tight for her affection ââ¬Å"Till the change of the Jewsâ⬠(Marvell 10). In any case, he advises her that should she hold up that long her ââ¬Å"beauty will no more be foundâ⬠(25). This dread is one of numerous ladies. The Growth of the Early American Economy in the West
The Growth of the Early American Economy in the West Cotton, from the outset a little scope crop in the American South, blasted after Eli Whitneys development of the cotton gin in 1793, the machine that isolated crude cotton from the seeds and other waste. The creation of the yield for use had generally depended on laborious manual partition, however this machine reformed the business and thus, the neighborhood economy that in the end came to depend on it. Grower in the South purchased land from little ranchers who every now and again moved more distant west. Before long, enormous southern manors upheld by slave laborâ made some American families exceptionally well off. Early Americans Move West It wasnt simply little southern ranchers who were moving west. Entire towns in the eastern states now and again evacuated and set up new settlements searching for new open door in the more prolific farmland of the Midwest. While western pioneers are frequently delineated as furiously free and firmly contradicted to any sort of government control or impedance, these first pilgrims really got a lot of government support, both straightforwardly and by implication. For instance, the American government started putting resources into foundation out west including government-subsidized national streets and conduits, for example, the Cumberland Pike (1818) and the Erie Canal (1825). These administration extends at last helped new pioneers relocate west and later helped move their western homestead produce to showcase in the eastern states. President Andrew Jackson's Economic Influence Numerous Americans, both rich and poor, admired Andrew Jackson, who became president in 1829, in light of the fact that he had begun life in a log lodge in American boondocks region. President Jackson (1829-1837) contradicted the replacement to Hamiltons National Bank, who he accepted supported the dug in premiums of the eastern states against the west. At the point when he was chosen for a subsequent term, Jackson contradicted reestablishing the banks contract and Congress bolstered him. These activities shook trust in the countries money related framework, and business alarms happened in both 1834 and 1837. American nineteenth Century Economic Growth in the West Be that as it may, these intermittent monetary disengagements didn't reduce fast U.S. financial development during the nineteenth century. New innovations and capital venture prompted the formation of new enterprises and financial development. As transportation improved, new markets ceaselessly opened to exploit. The steamer made stream traffic quicker and less expensive, however the improvement of railways had a much more prominent impact, opening up huge stretches of a new area for advancement. Like waterways and streets, railways got a lot of government help with their initial structure a very long time as land awards. Yet, in contrast to different types of transportation, railways likewise pulled in a decent arrangement of residential and European private venture. In these exciting days, easy money scams proliferated. Monetary controllers made fortunes short-term while significantly more lost their whole investment funds. In any case, a blend of vision and remote venture, joined with the disclosure of gold and a significant duty of Americas open and private riches, empowered the country to build up a huge scope railroad framework, setting up the base for the countrys industrialization and venture into the west.

As the commanding officer of C Company, during 1967, 1LT JRB served under his command as platoon leader. Their unit fought in some of the worst terrain imaginable and they were involved in some of the heaviest fighting that ever occurred in the Mekong Delta. Their mission primarily consisted of searching rice paddies, swamps and jungles south of Saigon with the express purpose of eliminating the Viet Cong and allowing the Delta s agriculture commerce to thrive once again. By all accounts, that mission was ultimately accomplished. A great deal of 1967 was served with the U.S. Navy living aboard their barracks ships and going on patrols from their landing craft when they barracked at Dong Tam deep in the Mekong Delta and dozens of their patrols were launched via Huey Helicopters. 1LT JRB also mentioned that the officers were readily awarded medals and that the enlisted men s accomplishments weren t always recognized. This source is a wanted poster produced on the orders of the Governor of New South Wales, George Robinson as a method of advertising the reward offered for the capture of Ned Kelly, Dan Kelly, Joseph Byrne and Stephen Hart, collectively known as the Kelly Gang. The poster was printed in 1879, signed by the Colonial Secretary of New South Wales, Henry Parkes and the Attorney-General of Victoria, Bryan Oââ¬â¢Loghlen. The poster was likely created through the cooperation of the Colonial Governments of Victoria and New South Wales at the time in order to show a united front against the outlaws. Through understanding why the poster was created and published, there are two separate groups of people which the poster can be seen as being aimed at reaching. The first group of people were the poorer Irish population of the two colonies, which provided the key part of the support network which sheltered and aided the Kelly Gang during their time on the run, commonly known as the Bush Telegraph. This demographic was targeted in an attempt to remove this support network and was probably seen by these people with mixed reactions. The support network over the gangs two year crime spree remained strong, however, towards the end of their time on the run, they found themselves increasingly isolated as police pressure and the promise of reward swayed several key supporters. A prime example of the offer of money and reward turning key Kelly Gang supporters against them is the betrayal of Aaron Sherritt who informed on the gang in an attempt to claim a reward. Integrated Marketing Plan of ALDI
Question: Discuss about the Integrated Marketing Plan of ALDI. Answer: Introduction Marketing refers to presenting the product features to the target market to influence them to make a purchase (Vargas, 2013, p.2-10). It is, however, a critical element that has received a new focus by most institutions around the globe. And the primary contributing factors for the application of sophisticated channels includes the development in the field of technology, changes in customers preferences and tastes and further the increasing level of rivalry among firms in the industry. Marketing indeed is an aspect that needs more focus than ever. Simply, the report has analyzed various aspects regarding marketing strategies used by Aldi stores in Australia. The most important area that was explicitly covered in the report is the marketing approaches that were applied by the company dating 50 years back after the establishment. It also focused on the current and suggested future marketing options that can lead Aldi Australia into success and expand its operations across the borders. In doing this, the paper has begun with a summary that has given an overview of the main ideas discussed, followed by the introduction, company background, marketing analysis, conclusion and recommendations respectively. Background of the company Aldi Australia is an organization that has operated in the grocery industry for long and has recorded significant success (Pash, 2016). The company was established in Australia since 2001, and from that period, so many changes have been occurred. It has more than 400 stores with a workforce of about 9,000 employees deployed to work in the various stores (Chung, 2015). This company is however known for the sale of quality products at a relatively low price. It has faced stiff competition from other players in the grocery industry like the Woolworth and Coles (Chung, 2015). Aldi have survived with the application of low pricing strategy. The current rating reveals that Aldi has succeeded to meet customers needs, especially the low and middle-income earners. This advantage has resulted in a positive market response, where an average of 6 million people's shop in the stores within one month. Marketing analysis This part involves a research that primarily aimed at identifying Aldi marketing approaches since it began. However, the understanding of the internal and external business environment is fundamental to the development of sound and efficient operational strategies (IBIS world, 2016). Such plans significantly help in overcoming the stiff competition on the market. Some of the appropriate analytical tools applied to establish the facilitators and hindrances of the business include the SWOT analysis, PESTLE analysis and Porters five forces (James, et al. 2011, p. 212-220). A clear understanding of the metrics constituted in these environmental analysis tools will enhance the establishment of appropriate marketing strategies. Apparently, these are just part of the tools Aldi has relied on as well as determined staff to come up with effective marketing strategies that have resulted in the success. It is noted that Aldi provides its products at a discount rate of about 25% and has further diversified to offer a range of non-grocery product (IBIS world, 2016). This strategy is part of a measure to keep off new players who enter the market since taking such pricing strategies might result in losses. The marketing strategies employed since it began As earlier noted, Aldi has significantly relied on the marketing research and environmental assessments to establishing solid marketing strategies that have seen it expand and grow. Currently, the company more than 7,000 stores across the world. It thus implies that the marketing strategies enacted have been fruitful. Based on Australia economy, the changing consumer needs, technological developments, government regulations, the level of competition, and others forced Aldi to apply the following marketing strategies as discussed below (Zarkada Fraser, 2002, p. 282-299). Marketing mix strategy: Here, Aldi has been employing product, price, place, promotion and positioning strategies. Notably, these elements have been the critical approaches that have culminated to the achievements seen today. To start with, the company has limited product brand of high quality at the lowest price. The low pricing strategy was a well-planned measure that was customer centric (Lamb, et al. 2012, p. 125-300). Because a large population of Australia is characterized by high sensitivity to price changes, the strategy of offering the goods at relatively low prices has been a disadvantage to others. Also, the establishment of more stores in the entire parts of Australia enhanced the reach of the products to more customers. Still, on the pricing strategies, Aldi have been applying different modes just to ensure the targeted market is achieved (Jimenez, 2004). Advertising: Aldi has also significantly invested in advertising initiatives that have resulted to the information reach to the target market. And here, the Radio, Television were immensely used. To be specific, the company has jointly used social and electronic sources of media to ensure that sales and marketing objective is achieved. The combinations of both these forms enhanced integrated marketing communication in that a system that fails to generate the desired impression is boosted by the other (Vargas, 2013, p. 2-10). The grabbing message in both the advertisement focused on the prices, availability and the quality of the products. As a result, price sensitive customers who purchased a product from the store vowed to come back and hence customer loyalty (Thomas, 2011, p. 141). Also, Aldi uses the social media and the internet to inform the customers about the products. Currently, social media has been immensely used by the organization to reach the youthful population. With the technological developments, most organizations have incorporated it in the operational processes and gone further to automate most of the transactions. Similarly, the marketers currently use the internet, Face book, Skype, Twitter, and more to present the product features to customers. Aldi is among such institutions that have not lagged behind in technological advancements. Its products are also marketed through these channels to ensure consumers timely access the information. Publicity and public relation: Publicity and public relations have also played a critical role in promoting the products and services of Aldi. A healthy connection with the customer, generally the society positively popularized the company. Also, the coverage on the social media played an equal role in presenting the companys products to the customers. For instance, an interview held by The Grocer and The Financial Times exposed the company to various clients. It, therefore, created a positive endorsement for the products of the enterprise. The most important part to note about these marketing strategies is that their efficiency emanates from a keener analysis of the SWOT, PESTLE and the Porters five forces. This assessment considerably resulted in a proper balance of forces behind these tools and aligned the plans with the organizational abilities and goals (Fred, R. 2009, p. 5-57). . The SWOT analysis should be used to assess the unutilized opportunities by Aldi. The understanding of the available opportunities can help Aldi develop sophisticated marketing strategies and further modify the products to suit customers needs (Miller, et al. 2002, pp. 40-43). Still, from the SWOT, Aldi can identify its strengths and work to perfect on them and lead the organization towards a right course. On the other hand, the Porters five forces will be instrumental in examining the external environment. It is from this examination that an appropriate marketing mix and sales promotion mix will be adopted to overcome the stiff competition on the market (Grant, et al. 2014). Strategic marketing options for moving forward Currently, Aldi is still performing well. However, the ever-changing technology imperatively demands adoption of management, operational and marketing change (Roberts, 2004). The embrasure of technology and incorporation into business process helps to solve just a fraction of the challenges facing the most organization. It substantially addresses internal environmental requirement, but the external ones still require more assessment and planning on effective ways of liquefying the adverse effects on the organization's success (Charles Kareth, 2008, P. 142-311). It is from this assertion that the report proposes some changes on the marketing strategies currently used by Aldi. Aldi however, has to come up with the following marketing recommendations: Aldi should first use more of the Advertising. It is apparent that the company has combined several forms of marketing. Because most of the target market for Aldi is the families, these people can mostly be reached through the radio and television. And it can be managed through booking for the message to be aired during a popular Television or Radio program. This strategy will consequently attract new customers (Vargas, 2013, p. 2-10). Secondly, Aldi should also embrace personal selling. This strategy is where talented marketers are hired to move on the ground and meet with customers. With the products provided by Aldi, these marketers will be obligated to offer some demonstration regarding the use of the product. The strategy can, however, be successful if some products can be offered as free samples for the customers to taste the quality. Managing this strategy is possible through hiring experienced and talented individuals to lead the process. Thirdly, Aldi should regularly offer a discount to its customers. Being a cost leadership company demands more regular changes that are meant to benefit customers. Because of its ability to influence suppliers to supply products at a lower price, it should also negotiate for other deals like discounts offering. Such discounts should be directly passed to the customers. This strategy can be successful through establishing a good relationship with the manufacturers as well as the customers. Lastly, Aldi should embrace social marketing. It can be through committing itself to supporting programs that are intended to benefit the society. Also, it should identify with supporting the needy and donate to the non-governmental organizations established to promote the society. Moreover, it should establish a healthy relationship with the stakeholders. By doing all these activities, Aldi will create a good reputation and will consequently benefit from the goodwill generated by increased customer base. Conclusions In conclusion, the business understanding of the intimate and outer surrounding can enhance the establishment of appropriate sales and marketing strategies. Marketing is fundamental to any business organization because of the numerous contributions it has made to most companies. And the use of pricing strategies, have assisted Aldi to gain substantial market share in Australia. For example, the company offers grocery products at 25% lower than the competitors. Indeed, these are high-quality products, at a low price. When he turned ten his parents sent him to a military school just outside of Paris. He devoted himself to learning and gaining experience to military tactics, it paid off. When he was 16 he became a lieutenant in the artillery. Revolution broke out the same year. He joined the military of the French Republic. France was now in the hands of three officials, called consuls. Napoleon was one. In 1800, he and his fellow consuls set up the plebiscite in which the citizens had the right to vote yes or no on an issue. On December 2, 1804, Napoleon crowned himself emperor. The plebiscite made this so. The Pope crowned him himself. People thought he was a godsend. He greatly changed the economy of France by making a lot of reforms. EC202 SLP - Essay Example If a country has a high GDP, it means it is healthy and has low unemployment, higher wages and hence higher spending power. Hence, Novartis would be more profitable in countries with higher GDPs where it can sell its products at a higher price. ii. Balance of Payments: Since Novartis is in a highly regulated industry (pharmaceuticals) Balance of Payments indicator becomes very important macro-economic indicator for Novartis. If a country is in fiscal deficit, it is likely that the government will induce a spending cut on its healthcare budget, and thereby the government would push Novartis to lower its drugsââ¬â¢ prices. iii. Interest Rates: Novartis being a multi-national pharmaceutical company engages in a number of foreign exchange transactions/flows across the globe. Hence, differences in interest rates would affect the relative worth of currencies in relation to one another (esp. forex changes between euro, CHF and USD). 2. What do these indicators suggest about the current o r future condition of your organization? With regards to the current economic crisis in the US, the macro-economic factors would have a negative effect on the condition of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. The US Congress recently passed a $38 billion spending cut bill (Reuters) that is anticipated to cut budgets of various government run healthcare and social programs.

Problem Solution Argument Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Problem Solution Argument - Essay Example The multi-billion dollars academic research funded by marketers is manipulative and unethical so it should be considered illegal. Marketers have the rights to find ways on how to improve their services to maximize their profits. However, there should be a limit to how they employ such ways and maintain ethical principles as they work. Background Information Large companies hire researchers, consultants, and analysts to conduct studies on the various human behaviors using different methods. Especially during global crisis, companies are more driven to increase their sales profits. According to Gladwell article, ââ¬Å"the time per visit that the average American spends in a shopping mall was sixty-six minutes last year down from seventy-two minutes in 1992- and is the lowest number recordedâ⬠(Gladwell 95). With economic problems, consumersââ¬â¢ interests of going to malls had fallen. Despite the drop in the number of hours consumers spend in malls, sellersââ¬â¢ profits can be improved through researches on consumer behaviors. Paco Underhill is a researcher who graduated from Columbia who had analyzed hours of shopping videotape in the past decades (Gladwell 95). Through analyzing consumer behaviors, marketers recognize that not all consumers are the same, which is why marketers now do segmentation of consumers. Segmentation is another effective trick and method used by marketers to be able to create the right advertisement for the targeted consumers. Kids are well impacted by the segmentation system. Advertisement has changed rapidly from only a few large companies such as Disney, McDonald, and others, but in our contemporary society, now almost all companies target children for their own benefits. According to Eric Schlosser, ââ¬Å"Today children are being targeted by phone companies, oil companies, and automobilecompanies as well as clothing stores and restaurant chainsâ⬠. Children are exposed to 40,000 commercials per year. American Companie s are recorded to spend $800 million per year for kidsââ¬â¢ advertisement and the revenues are triple. With $800 initial money, they earned $29 billion revenues. Moreover, the Europeans generate revenues between $620 to $930 million. This shows that kids bring huge profits to many producers. Marketers did not only do surveys but they also focused on kids to be questioned secretly without their parentsââ¬â¢ notice to obtain the information. Thanks to the Childrenââ¬â¢s Online Privacy Protection Act that took effect on April, 2000, childrenââ¬â¢s exposure to abuse are a little limited. Nowadays, clubs seem to be the trend in getting to children. ââ¬Å"According to one Burger King executive, the creation of a Burger King Kids Club in 1991 increased the sales of children's meals as much as 300 percentâ⬠(Schlosser). In addition, researchers found out that about 80 percent of kids dream about animals. This information is used by many marketers to create imaginary figure s that will be liked by the young children, used for advertisements to entice them. It is interesting to note how marketers target children because they are easily manipulated due to their immaturity. Lastly, the other technique used by the researchers is Neuromarketing, a process where the possible responses of consumers are studied in order to create products that would meet their ââ¬Ë

Drug Trade in South America Essay Example for Free
Drug Trade in South America Essay Among the many topics given for the annotated Bibliography, I have decided go by my teachers advice. Therefore, I will cover ââ¬Å"drug trade in South Americaâ⬠. South America is a large continent comprising of countries like, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Uruguay, Ecuador and Venezuela among many others. The whole of this continent has been noted to be a primary source for narcotics, which in most cases end up finding their way to the rest of the world, with Colombia being the number one Heroine producer in the whole South America continent. The contents favorable climatic conditions allows for the mass growing of cocaine, heroine, and bhang producing plants. This widespread growth of these plants is practiced in the fertile lands along the many permanent rivers which criss-cross the continent e. g. Amazon River basin. These rivers also offer drug transportation alternative, whereby private boats transport these drugs across the borders of countries. The fight against drug cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale in the continent has done little to this deep-rooted vice. This is because of overwhelming rates of corruption across the continent. Another reason has been the chronic political instability of many countries of South America. The majority of the continents countries are largely under developed and therefore proper Government machinations to combat drug trafficking has not really been to the expected standards. In my map, I have shown the whole continent of South America with its physical features included to show the drug growing areas. The tropical rain forests the Amazon River basin. Through my research I hope to extract the mystery about the resistant drug producing culture, the various governments efforts to combat drug trafficking and some of the major drug cartels in the continent. International narcotics control strategy report 2006 Bureau for international Narcotics and law Enforcement Affairs This report complied by Bureau for international Narcotics and law Enforcement Affairs, March 2006, gives a detailed account of the state of affairs, pertaining drugs in more than ten countries of S. America. The journal is so detailed that it shows out a brief summary each of the ten countries drug trafficking levels, countries drug rating status, countries actions against drugs 2005, countries law enforcement efforts and arrest made, and lastly, countries road map towards combating drug trafficking. From article, it is clear that the continent produce almost all the prohibited drugs i. e. heroine, cocaine, marijuana, these drugs are grown almost all the eleven countries discussed in the article, with Colombia being the leading in production of all these drugs. Also in this article is the environmental safeguarding measures applied when destroying drugs. The article shows the rating of every country among the countries of the world. This journal has very many details about drug cultivation manufacture, distribution and selling making it a very informing tool to the relevant authorities who are responsible for the crackdown of the illegal cartels. I further recommend the journal to both potential and practicing law enforcers, to fellow students who may be taking the same course, this journal is the kind of research material they need to look for. It convinces a reader that, with all that knowledge about the existence of drug trafficking then curbing it is very simple. The author of this journal (bureau for international narcotics and law enforcements affairs) is the body charged with the duty of drawing regulations and the enforcement of the laws governing illegal drug trafficking, and therefore the information in it is very much reliable as a source for this topic.

John Heartfield :: Essays Papers
John Singer Sargent Recognized as the leading portraitist in England and the United States at the turn of the century, John Singer Sargent was acclaimed for his elegant and very stylish depictions of high society. Known for his technical ability, he shunned traditional academic precepts in favor of a modern approach towards technique, color and form, thereby making his own special contribution to the history of grand manner portraiture. A true cosmopolite, he was also a painter of plain air landscapes and genre scenes, drawing his subjects from such diverse locales as England, France, Italy and Switzerland. In so doing, Sargent also played a vital role in the history of British and American Impressionism. Sargent was born in Florence in 1856. He was the first child of Dr. Fitzwilliam Sargent, a surgeon from an old New England family, and Mary Newbold Singer, the daughter of a Philadelphia merchant. His parents were among the many prosperous Americans who adopted an outcast-like lifestyle during the later nineteenth century. Indeed, Sargentââ¬â¢s family traveled constantly throughout the Continent and in England, a mode of living that enriched Sargent both culturally and socially. He ultimately became fluent in French, Italian and German, in addition to English. Having developed an interest in drawing as a boy, Sargent received his earliest formal instruction in Rome in 1869, where he was taught by the German-American landscape painter Carl Welsch. Following this, he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence during 1873-74. In the spring of 1874, Sargentââ¬â¢s family moved to Paris, enabling him to continue his training there. He soon entered the studio of Charles-Emile-Auguste Carolus-Duran. In contrast to most French academic painters, Carolus-Duran taught his students to paint directly on the canvas, capturing the essence of his subject through relaxed brushwork, a tonal palette and strong chiaroscuro. Although Sargent also spent four years studying drawing under Là ©on Bonnat at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, it was Carolus-Duranââ¬â¢s approach that would form the aesthetic basis of his style. Upon his teacherââ¬â¢s advice, Sargent also traveled to Spain and Holland to study the work of old master painters such as Diego Velà ¡zquez and Frans Hals, both of whom also employed skilled, fluid techniques.

Environmental Management System Audit
An Audit is not the same as an Inventory Many people can confuse an audit with an inventory. The one vital difference between the inventory and an audit is that the inventory is concerned only with the environment, whereas an audit concerns the relationship of a community. The main purpose of the inventory is to collect environmental facts. (Newman et al. , 1997). An audit relates those facts to a specific community. This concern for compliance with standard rules and requirements is also relevant to environmental audits, but normally will not dominate the audit, as it does a financial audit. The environment cannot be reduced to a set of rules, such as those that control the preparation of financial statements. The report on an environmental audit will be lengthy rather than brief, and its findings will tend to be in the form of comments, recommendations and suggestions. This means that there is scope for disagreement or different interpretations. An audit also considers how the past has led to the present situation, but it is more concerned with the overall picture than with specific problems. (Newman et al. 1996) An audit: Summary Places the emphasis on interpretation rather than on data collection Emphasizes the overall view rather than specific investigation of individual problems. Is an activity commissioned by and used by a First Nation, not something carried out by or for another body. Assists the identification of goals and priorities, rather than being a response to problems or opportunities. Definitions Environmental Management System: The organizational structure, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes, and resources for implementing and maintaining environmental management. Graff, 1997) Environmental Management System Audit: A program and procedure that determines whether the environmental management system conforms to the organization's planned arrangements and whether it has been properly implemented and maintained. (Newman et al. , 1997). It contributes to management's purpose of the continuing capability of the environmental management system. Environmental Management System Review: A formal evaluation by senior management of the status and capability of the environmental management system in relation to environmental policy and new objectives resulting from changing circumstances. Environmental Management System The International Organization for Standardization defines an EMS (Environmental Management System) as the ââ¬Å"organizational structure, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes and resources for implementing and maintaining environmental management. ââ¬Å"(1995, p. 6) In simplified terms, an EMS continually provides an organization with an accurate understanding of the impacts its activities are having on the environment, as well as useful estimates of potential impacts. A critical element of an EMS is the requirement for management to demonstrate a commitment to continual improvement by periodically auditing, reviewing and revising its EMS. (Graff, 1997) As evidenced by the word ââ¬Å"system,â⬠an EMS suggests a continuous cycle. This cycle begins with the design of an environmental policy. The policy must then be operationalized and implemented throughout the organization. The company must declare its environmental objectives, and identify those, which will have the greatest environmental impact. These objectives become the primary areas of consideration within the company's environmental programs. The environmental programs are essentially the blueprint the organization follows to achieve specific objectives and targets along the route to achieving the overall environmental policy. The EMS establishes procedures; work instructions and controls to ensure that implementation of the policy and achievement of the targets can become a reality. (The International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Communication is vital. It enables people within the organization to understand their responsibilities, and to have an appreciation for the environmental objectives of the organization. With this information, they are better able to contribute to the success of the EMS. Conclusion Environmental management aims to make responsible use of natural, economic and human resources in ways that protect and improve the environment. It seeks to protect valued ecological assets, manage local areas in the most appropriate way and enhance the relationship between people and the natural environment. (Turner et al. , 1993). Today environmental management aims to secure the important principles of sustainable development which seeks to put in place stewardship of the environment for this and future generations.

Romeo and Juliet Gender Roles - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 631 Downloads: 10 Date added: 2019/03/13 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Romeo and Juliet Essay William Shakespeare Essay Did you like this example? The society of Verona had major differences among the way men and women should act. Men were expected to be masculine and carry themselves with honor and pride; while women were expected to please their men and hold their own opinions. Nevertheless, Romeo and Juliet defied the expected gender roles of their society. Men in Verona, during this time, induced a strong sense of power over women. Whereas, women were looked at as possessions who were supposed to do what the men asked of them. Yet, Romeo and Juliet tested these ideas by challenging these gender roles. Romeo defied his masculinity and possessed much more feminine and passive traits. In Act I, Romeo communicated in a poetic tone to the other men. Romeo was in love. His way of thinking was made fun of by many of his peers as being feminine. His male role faded in the eyes of others. He put himself below Juliet and spoke to her in a weak tone, especially during the well-known balcony scene. ââ¬Å"O speak again, bright angel, for thou art / As glorious to this night, being oââ¬â¢er me head, / As a winged messenger of heavenâ⬠(Shakespeare 2.2.26-28). Men in Verona during this time period would never put themselves below a woman. Romeo challenged many of the male gender roles for this time. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Romeo and Juliet Gender Roles" essay for you Create order Women of Verona were viewed to be a totally different rank to the men of that time. They were thought of as lesser value, powerless, and essentially just items to possess. Women were expected to have arranged marriages, as well as, obey and honor their husbands. In Act I, Sampson speaks this: â⬠ââ¬ËTis true, and therefore women, being the weaker vessels, are ever thrust to the wall; therefore I / will push Montaqueââ¬â¢s men from the wall, and thrust / his maids to the wallâ⬠(Shakespeare 1.1.15-18) In this quote, Sampson is showing dominance and referring to women to be weaker in power than him. Juliet defied these rules and had many opinions of her own, such as marrying Romeo without her parentsââ¬â¢ consent. This caused issues with Julietââ¬â¢s father, Lord Capulet. He insisted for Juliet to marry a different guy, Paris. Juliet went against her fatherââ¬â¢s wishes. This was not an acceptable act for woman during this time. Juliet is characterized, by Shake speare, in a way that opposes the roles of women by giving her extraordinary power during this time period. When challenged by societyââ¬â¢s expectations, Romeo and Juliet tried to conform to the expected gender roles. Romeo was concerned about losing his manliness by his actions from falling in love: ââ¬Å"O sweet Juliet. / Thy beauty hath made me effeminate, / And in my temper softââ¬â¢ned valorââ¬â¢s steel!â⬠(Shakespeare 3.1.113-115). Romeo fought to take revenge for his close friend, Mercutio, that was killed. This led to him being sent away and a major turn of events. Near the end of the play, Romeoââ¬â¢s harsh behavior increased. He continued to fight anyone preventing him from being with Juliet. This gave Romeo more of a masculine image. Juliet gave into Friar Lawrenceââ¬â¢s plan of drinking the potion to fake her death and escape the disagreement with her parents. This provided Juliet with a more feminine appearance as she allowed others to choose whatââ¬â¢s best for her. As Romeo and Juliet changed back to societyââ¬â¢s expectations of their gender role s, they left an opening for a huge disaster to happen. It was evident that Romeo and Juliet disregarded their gender expectations for that period of time. Their behaviors and actions throughout the play reflected how they were different from many other people in their society. Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s gender reversal left a huge impact on the two rival families and the city of Verona.

NCAA Recruiting Ethics Essay - 1239 Words
College recruiting is something that was created for the good of college sports, but is often used for such unethical actions that will make anyone with a soul cringe. In 2004, University of Coloradoââ¬â¢s athletic department used alcohol, drugs, and sex to lure recruits during official campus visits (Gerdy). These actions are immoral on a number of levels, and should not be tolerated. If this type of behavior continues to be seen in college sports, then serious changes need to be made. Illegal recruiting that takes place in NCAA athletics is unethical, gives colleges unfair advantages, and jeopardizes playerââ¬â¢s eligibility. First, illegal recruiting in NCAA athletics is tremendously unethical. ââ¬Å"The extremely high stakes of recruiting canâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦No matter how dishonest it may be, there are immoral people in this world who will sacrifice everything for success. Then again, what is success when it is not earned? Secondly, there are many different NCAA recruiting infractions that can lead to severe punishment. These punishments are not only for the coaches but for the illegally recruited players as well. There are certain criteria that decide what is and is not illegal, but some might not seem as severe as one might think. For example, the NCAA defines illegal contact as any face-to-face meeting between a coach and athlete as anything more than saying ââ¬Å"helloâ⬠(Disalvo 69). Although this may seem to be a bit drastic, it makes it obvious to the players and coaches exactly what rules and guidelines to follow. Also, even though young athletes may not know at the time, th eir eligibility is put in jeopardy when the colleges that recruit them are not following NCAA rules (60). This, in some playersââ¬â¢ eyes, is as unfair as because they may feel that they should not be penalized for something that they did not know about. However, it is the playerââ¬â¢s responsibility to understand and comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, therefore it is their fault. Overall, cheating in NCAA athletics includes actions that violate regulations of sport governing organizations, such as those dealing with recruiting and eligibility (Shulman). How Fraud in the Financial Markets Influence Government...

Various opinions related to corporate social responsibility are detailed within the literature review followed by IAG case presentation and discussion then finally conclusion. Introduction Green marketing consists of various activities focused on satisfying human needs with ultimate reduced negative impacts on the society. This ensures that the interest of al l players, organization and consumers, are well protected. The buyer and the seller should mutually benefit from the voluntary exchange taking place within the market place. Consumers all over the world are generally becoming concerned about environmental conditions especially the advertisements on green-washing. Green-washing is a term used to refer to the various advertising and public relations used in misrepresenting organizations and products based on sustainability and environmental benefits. Research done in Australia in early 1990s, revealed that 85% of the studied sample believed in their responsibility towards the environment. Over 80% of the sample also agreed on the fact that they changed their purchasing habits owing to environmental reasons. Hence, the conclusion that environmentally friendly firms involved in marketing, have competitive advantage over those marketing non-environmentally responsible goods (McDonnell and Bartlett, 2009, pp. 63-70). It is important for f irms to realize their role within the wider society, hence conduct their activities in an environmentally responsible manner. This normally arises from the belief that profit related objectives should be achieved alongside environmental objectives.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? The attempts made by governments to protect consumers from various exploitations provide consumers with opportunity of making informed decisions (McDonnell and Bartlett, 2009, pp. 63-70). Critical review of literature Corporate social responsibility together with economic and environmental responsibility has been advocated within the Australian society from 1950s. The practices have grown rapidly within the 21st century (de Bakker et al, 2005) . Environmental and social demands have become major concern to the both public and private domain, with environmental demands becoming increasingly highlighted in most publications. There are pronounced commitments by most governments around the world to protect environment through such agreements as Kyoto Protocol and IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). Social responsibility of business entity incorporates various domains such as economic, legal, ethical as well as uncompromised standard expectations that consumers have over organizations at particular time frame. The actions by various business entities should foster some common good to the society beyond personal interest of the firm based on the required laws (McWilliams and Siegel, 2001, p. 117). All business organizations are actually obligated to the good of their social and natural environment. Classical requirements of organizationââ¬â¢s social responsibilities are centred on making of profits and the rela tionship between the organization and range of stakeholders. Organizations usually affect various groups within the social environment as a consequence of their activities. Hence the focus should extend beyond economic gains and also encompass social, environmental and governance dimensions. Most organizations utilize the media when conveying important information on innovative practices they seek to legitimize. The media provides the channel through which cognitive legitimacy is built based on business organizational activities. The same channel can be used in rebuilding organizational brand image whenever in question. Business organizations normally use impression and crisis management practices to sensitize consumers on their commitment towards environmentally friendly activities. In this case study, the intended examination is geared towards rebuilding legitimacy by individual organizations.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Corporate Advertising Ca mpaigns for Consumers specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Organizationââ¬â¢s image can easily be built through media activities where they seek to influence public reactions towards their products, services and other related actions. On the other hand, media can as well be used by organizations to criticize othersââ¬â¢ practices in the process of promoting their own. The effects of public reactions towards companyââ¬â¢s brand image usually have long-term effects. Legitimacy within the marketplace is socially constructed in such a manner that the various practices provide the required blueprint on ways of approaching social interactions (McDonnell and Bartlett, 2009, pp. 63-70). Presentation of IAG case Organizations strive to promote their agendas to the public based on climate change. There has been lots of politics surrounding global environmental issues leading to emergence of various interest groups. Such groups have tried t o influence public opinions in a rather superstitious ways. However, formidable contributions have been associated with the global insurance industry. The industry has been known for its active participation in social responsibilities. One of the negative implications facing the company is the issue of running bankrupt owing to weather related disasters. Most insurance companies are in dilemma concerning future premium charges due to lack of blueprint from past climatic patterns. Insurance industry influences issues on climatic changes by insuring coal-fired power plants as well as wind farms, at the same time it promotes rates capable of facilitating emissions from various companies. The Australian Insurance Group (IAG) stands as one of the insurance groups with the belief that frequency on occurrences of natural disasters are set to occur due to the rate of global warming. Survival of most insurance firms revolves around their ability to successfully tackle issues on global warmin g with the predictions that the cost of carbon will ultimately demand business expenses in the near future. However, IAG has developed formidable strategies capable of dealing with climatic challenges. Most of the strategies are market oriented with the ability to differentiate companyââ¬â¢s brand from others based on their focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Other strategies addresses issues on carbon neutrality, climate help, discount on fuel-efficient vehicles, marketing campaigns on carbonators amongst others (McDonnell and Bartlett, 2009, pp. 63-70). IAG had plans of steering the group towards becoming carbon neutral by the year 2012. This was meant at lowering emissions by the use of carbon credits from various sources. The level of carbon emissions from the Groupââ¬â¢s business premises in Australia decreased by approximately 18%. The adjustments included use of energy efficient lighting system, timers and adjustments on air conditioning as well as occupying an energy efficient building. The company also used, Climate Help tool, which is an online tool used by customers in the process of offsetting greenhouse emissions associated with car use. Consumers considered the process very convenient and inexpensive means of mitigating negative environmental change. The website provides information on climate change and at the same time give advice on the importance of utilizing other modes of transport and fuel-efficient cars. IAG developed an integrated multimedia campaign out of the website resulting into tremendous increase in the number of people using carbon cards (McDonnell and Bartlett, 2009, pp. 63-70). Then there was the use of GreenSafe car profiler which assisted in the examination of all motor vehicles imported into the Australian industry based on safety and environmental viability. The process makes comparison between vehicle models based on their level of emissions as well as general costs. IAG Company resorted into rewarding consumers with fuel-efficient cars hence saving on insurance costs. In another aspect, IAG plays an important role in influencing climatic reporting mechanisms in Australia. Also there is the aspect of carbonators marketing campaign by NRMA Queensland where offsetting was done for each new policy. The sale of carbonators used the initial approach of creativity before inducing price approach. This helped in differentiating the company within the market making the company experience increased policy renewals, more new customers and reduced churn (McDonnell and Bartlett, 2009, pp. 63-70). Approach towards stakeholders Corporate social responsibility within the company is clearly associated with other businesses within the market. There are possibilities of the business to be in contact and conflict with other key stakeholders based on responsible business goals, local needs, regional and global needs as well as different cultures. The concept of stakeholder engagement and communication entails marriage of determined leadership characteristics. This is since the stakeholders seem to be in competition for the same consumer base, employees, environment, society as well as suppliers. It is easier to approach stakeholdersââ¬â¢ issues by use of relationship models such as inside-out approach where leaders manage relationships by building CSR networks across bo undaries. Information is shared with stakeholders after internal decisions are made and in the process of implementation. Fig 1: Broadcast messages supported by Sales Support Ethics Pyramid This pyramid is instrumental in incorporating ethical relations into the entire structure of public relations. It is paramount to consider ethical content and outcome of any campaign tactic. The use of Potter Box in this case would help in focusing the companyââ¬â¢s attention towards values and loyalties capable of making accessed ethical decision. The three-step system would ensure that all the appropriate means, intent and ends are considered (Baker and Martinson, 2001). Fig 2; Adaptation for Ethics Social imagination incorporates the ability of the company to understand the communityââ¬â¢s situation from different dimensions and perspectives. Development of social imagination requires awareness of various social dilemmas and active processes essential for interpreting environment as we ll as understanding the organizationââ¬â¢s role within the community (Baker, 2002). Discussion of the case In the process using marketing as means of promoting green-washing, consumers need to be reassured of the fact that the advertisements are both business and environmentally oriented. The firm need to ensure that indeed their activities are genuine and not misleading to consumers (Martinson, 2000). At the same time the activities should follow all the regulations safeguarding environmental marketing. The claims should clearly detail environmental characteristics as well as state the various benefits and processes on how they are achieved. There is also need for the company to ensure that the various differences are justified besides ensuring that all set-backs are dealt with including the appropriate use of images and pictures. The process of modifying the products at times meet increased consumer perceptions which at times are never genuine, hence bowing too much to consumer pressure at times may mislead. Good example is in the use of plastic coated paper instead of clam shells which are scientifically approved to be more environmentally friendly (Marsh, 2001). Probability is high on the fact that those practices currently approved to be environmentally friendly might be harmful in the future years. Good example is in aerosol industry shifting from using CFCs to HFCs of which is currently considered to be part greenhouse gas hence harmful to the environment. Such mistakes are provided for due to the current limited scientific knowledge making firms to be uncertain on the future corrective measures that may be environmentally responsible. However, some firms have decided to become socially responsible in a silent manner without any publicity due to uncertainties which may arise in future. This can as well protect the firms from future negative consumer perceptions in case their corrective measures are proved otherwise by consumers (McDonnell and Bartlet t, 2009, pp. 63-70). Conclusion Most organizations are currently scrambling to be recognized as environmentally responsible. They tend to have competing principles and agendas targeting individual success and at the same time considering various environmental impacts within the society. Insurance has got basic concern in addressing environmental issues since most of the disasters are normally associated with natural environment. The success of most companies revolves around the appropriate decisions made by the insurance industry. The case analysed major Australian insurance company IAG, its practices and key marketing strategies. The company is portrayed as having great concern towards the environment since they have adopted various practices aimed at restoration of sanity within the environment. Their marketing strategies are also objective in such a way that they influence behavioural change towards environment amongst consumers. IAG uses its position to influence public opinion necessary for mitigating negative environmental impacts. Their practices are found to be sincere and not misleading to entire consumers within the marketplace. Proposal for better management Stakeholders are known to provide organizations with range of resources such as customers, employees and capital amongst other benefits necessary for conducting businesses. These resources create some link between stakeholders and organizations hence making organizations to be responsible for their social and legitimate actions towards consumers. The shift in thinking from financial perspective demands that business organizations consider the impact of their activities on wide range of stakeholders. Currently, there is more pressing demand from consumers on the extent to which companies deal with environmental matters. This has made organizations to play vital role in shaping public opinion and environmental policies by complying with social and stakeholder demands hence legitimizing themselves to acceptable organizational and societal practices (McDonnell and Bartlett, 2009, pp. 63-70; Baker, 1997). All forms of governmental regulations are meant to grant consumers opportunity to make better environmental decisions. However, difficulties arise especially in the point of establishing policies capable of addressing all areas of concern within the environment. Good example can be drawn from the set of regulations safeguarding environmental marketing which addresses only narrow sets of issues. Meaning that in the process of modifying consumer behaviours the government requires to establish totally different set of laws. This may result into breach of many set regulations since there is no central organization concerned with checking and controlling regulations used in the marketplace (McDonnell and Bartlett, 2009, pp. 63-70).
